FABAL was established in 1982 by Chris Day, Peter Kerin and Dim Georgiadis. In 1994 FABAL initiated the development and management of vineyards in premium cool climate regions of Australia. Its most recent viticulture project was developed in Heathcote, Victoria in 2008. This experience has in recent years been utilised in the development and management of two horticultural projects since 2008 – the development of a 36-hectare cherry orchard in the Huon Valley, Tasmania and assuming the responsible entity role for a 630-hectare avocado project south of Bundaberg, Queensland.
The FABAL management team has significant experience in wine, viticulture, horticulture, marketing, sales, agribusiness production, finance, law, property, banking, planning, management and accounting, allowing it to be a pre-eminent developer and manager of agribusiness projects.
Vineyard Management FABAL is strategically working to become the first choice of the major Australian wine companies in the supply of premium cool climate winegrapes. FABAL currently manages, for its growers and itself, more than 1,500 hectares of vineyards in premium winegrape regions in the Barossa Valley, Padthaway, Wrattonbully, Coonawarra, Clare Valley, Margaret River, Langhorne Creek, McLaren Vale and Heathcote areas. FABAL has a specific policy of only undertaking vineyard developments matched with secure grape purchase agreements with Australia’s leading wine companies. This ensures that more than 95% of all wine-grapes produced on the FABAL managed vineyards are contracted for sale to Foster's Wine Estates, Constellation Wines Australia, Orlando Wines (a division of Pernod Ricard Pacific Pty Ltd), Australian Vintage and a number of other leading wineries.
