Padthaway

padchard1Padthaway, which is approximately 305 kilometres South East of Adelaide, was once seen as the gateway to the Coonawarra. Now it is famous in its own right for producing some of the world's best Shiraz and Chardonnay.

BELL'S PADTHAWAY VINEYARD

Bell's Padthaway Entrance 69 hectare property was purchased from the Bell family in 1996 by the National Viticultural Fund of Australia with an existing 9 hectares of mature vineyard. An additional 54 hectares have been planted since 1998. The soils are typical of this high quality area having reasonably shallow loam topsoils over a bed of limestone.

What is planted?

Padthaway shiraz is well-renowned because of the region's proven ability to produce superb wine. Not surprisingly 60% of the vineyard is planted to Shiraz, other varieties however include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay. The yields have been purposely restricted to ensure the grapes only make their way into premium and super premium wines.
